International art therapy training in Denmark.
A depth oriented training program in art therapy will be offered every summer and it is posible to participate in single courses. Every course will have a different focus, so those who wish to continue an art therapeutic development can explore different topics.
All teaching will be held in English.
Next course is 26. – 31 th of july 2025
The training at the institute combines personal development and professional training in using art as a bridge towards a better quality of life.
For many years an international course has been offered at the institute each summer with participants from many countries. This program gives an opportunity to add a professional therapeutic training to a personal development using a Jungian approach in clinical work with clients.
About the institute
The art therapy institute in Denmark was founded by Vibeke Skov in 1986 and an art therapy education has been offered since then. It is a private institute without support from government.
The basic orientation is based on Jung’s psychology and the understanding of development of the individual Self as an original and creative core in the personality.
Jungian art therapy
Jung was one of the first to emphasize the need for self-development when working with other people, in order to avoid seeing the other through the personal history of the therapist. The ability to emphasize with the client and to feel free to use the individual creativity in the therapist, trusting the caring consequences for the client, is one of the most important values in Jungian psychology. The challenge and personal process is to find this inner creative core without judgment, shame or other voices from the past in order for the Self to unfold in a meaningful and joyful way. The special possibility in the Jungian approach is to use symbols and imagination as a tool to communicate with the inner Self. This connection between the ego and the self (the ego-self axis) marks the end of therapy and the continuation of the process of individuation.
The function of the Self has proven to be both self-regulative as well as guiding for the ego and connecting with the inner self is regarded as a goal in therapy. Using symbols and imaginative dialogues also facilitates a possibility to develop new parts of the psyche for future growth.
The integrative model
Art therapy at the Institute is structured according to the integrative model that developed as an unexpected result from a research study in 2013 made by Vibeke Skov. It contains 4 domains, the biological, psychological, social and spiritual and can be seen as a transformative model for growth as well as a structure for making choices in art therapy methods. Here is a model of the integrative structure related to art therapy activities and the psychological potentials.

Theme for the course in 2025: Development of Self through art therapy
Next course will focus on the journey towards the inner Self in the psyche, which Jung named the proces of individuation. We will work with the inner personalities, called the shadow, the masculine and the feminine as complexes in the psyhe that needs to be adressed in order to establish a life long connection to the inner core, the Self. Through creative activities it becomes possible to get to know these inner personalities and to hear their voices related to the past as well as to the future.
Also we will include dreams and ways to use dreams creatively in selfdevelopment.
The image will be explored through dialogue, roleplaying and active imagination.
